Britain's Banking Reforms Are So Old Economy

Britain's Banking Reforms Are So Old Economy

The report is entirely backward-looking and seems to take no account of the really interesting trends and developments in financial services.

This whole report is a missed opportunity. It is so focused on yesterday's banking problem that it completely ignores the broader question of what kind of retail (or, for that matter, wholesale) financial system we want tomorrow.

Best of all, putting this off to 2019 makes it possible to quietly shelve the report if bankers regain some of their respectability and their sector recovers its bounce.
